Allegiant Air offering budget-busting fares for summer vacations

Travelers from Greater Cincinnati planning their summer vacations can look forward to cheap airfares this year. The major airport in this region Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) is witnessing a boom in vacation flights presently.

With the approach of 2014 summer travel season, many airlines and charters have announced new flights from CVG to various holiday destinations such as the Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Mexico, Cancun, Gulf Coast, Myrtle Beach and Orlando.

At least 15 new vacation flights per week have either started or announced in recent months. The arrival of low-cost carrier Allegiant Air at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport this year has come as a boon for leisure travelers to consider taking cheap flights to their favorite holiday destinations which has till recently been known to cater to business travelers mostly.

Allegiant Air last month began operating seasonal flights to Myrtle Beach. This will be the airline’s 4th vacation destination from CVG. The airline launched its flights to Myrtle Beach from May 30, 2014.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air’s arrival to CVG has come at a time when vacation charter flights from the airport increased 41 percent in 2013. The airline said that it will continue to focus on budget-conscious customers instead of frequent flyers.

According to CVG airport officials, the arrival of Allegiant Air, Delta Air Lines, and also increased vacation flights by Vacation Express, the Atlanta-based charter service, are all part of the airport’s strategy to attract leisure travelers in a big way who have so far preferred to fly from other airports because of the usually high fares at the CVG. The fares provided at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport are considered to be among the highest in the United States. The airport officials said that leisure travelers have until now preferred to avoid CVG and instead took cheaper vacation flights from nearby airports such as Indianapolis, Lexington, Columbus, Louisville and Dayton.

Allegiant Air considers Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport as the rapidly-growing non-vacation airport in its 15-year history. The airline said that during its first two-and-a-half months here its 166-seater aircrafts reported excellent business as they were 92 percent full.
