Allegiant Air to end Bellingham-Hawaii service

Allegiant Air recently announced it will be ending its flight operations between Bellingham and Hawaii. The airline had been operating for two years now and aggressively competing with Alaska Airlines on the route.

Media reports said that Allegiant Air first started flights on Bellingham-Hawaii route in 2012. The airline provided nonstop flights services to Honolulu and Maui, the two key cities in Hawaii.

The routes were however suspended by the airline in April 2014. The airline said that it wanted to make the routes seasonal and would be resuming the service during the winter. The reports said that the airline has decided not to resume the services on these routes after it reviewed its performance and profitability from last season.

Justin Ralenkotter, Spokesman of Allegiant Air, said that the airline’s success largely depended on its ability to promptly respond to the market demand. He said that the airline would be flying only when and where people wanted it to fly.

Ralenkotter further indicated that the airline will continue to maintain a large presence at the Bellingham airport. It would be offering nonstop flights services on six routes, which includes San Diego, Phoemix/Mesa, Palm Springs, Oakland, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

According to Ralenkotter, Allegiant Air has also decided to continue offering operating seasonal flights or year-round service from eight cities in the United States to Honolulu. These cities include Stockton, Spokane, Phoenix/Mesa, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Fresno, Eugene and Boise.

Allegiant Air’s rival Alaska Airlines started its service between Bellingham and Hawaii in January 2011 with the launch of flights to Honolulu. This was the first-ever route to Hawaii from Bellingham.
