American Airlines bags twin honors from Airfinance Journal

American Airlines recently became the proud recipient of two awards announced by a reputed U.S. publication “Airfinance Journal”. The awards presented to the airline included “Overall Deal of the Year” and “Airline Treasury Team of the Year”. The awards were given to American Airlines acknowledging its merger with US Airways and on a big aircraft order as well as other financing.

The awards were presented at the recently-concluded 34th Annual New York Airfinance Conference organized by Airfinance Journal. The awards were based on aircraft financings of 2013. American Airlines was given the award after the judges reviewed the airline’s size, execution and innovation. Dickon Harris, Editor of Airfinance Journal, said that the mega merger of American Airlines with US Airways at an estimated $1.7 billion had vastly transformed the US aviation landscape on a permanent basis. This was such a huge deal to be lightly passed off or ignored. He said that American Airlines’ huge order for aircrafts worth $5.9 billion and other projects, while simultaneously arranging massive finances for the merger.

Post merger with US Airways, a new company American Airlines Group has been formed. The two carriers now jointly operate the largest network in the United States with an average of 6.700 flights daily serving 339 destinations spanning in 54 countries. The group maintains is hubs at Washington D.C., Phoenix, Philadelphia, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago and Charlotte.

Meanwhile, American Airlines recently announced it is adding flights to St. Kitts from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The additional nonstop flights will be operated on Fridays, apart from the existing twice weekly nonstop flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The summer seasonal flights will begin operations from June 13, 2014 and continue until September 5, 2014. The airline has launched exciting “Summer Sunsation” family deals for the service.
