American Airlines into codeshare pact with British Airways to provide India service

American Airlines recently announced it has entered into a codeshare agreement with British Airways to provide flights service to prominent Indian cities.

The Indian government recently gave its approval to American Airlines and British Airways to provide codeshare flights to key destinations in India.

The approval will now allow American Airlines to place its code on British Airways flights from London to Indian cities, such as Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

The air tickets for new codeshare flights have already been put on sale. According to American Airlines, the first codeshare flight commenced March 29, 2012.

American Airlines said in a statement that the new codeshare agreement will provided American passengers greater connectivity and more convenient choices when traveling to India.

The placing of its code on British Airways flights will complement American Airlines’ existing service to India through its partner airline Jet Airways via Brussels.

Kenji Hashimoto, American Airlines' Vice President – Strategic Alliances, said that the new codeshare relationship with British Airways will provide American Airlines’ customers extra options and easier access to India.
