American Airlines launches its first Boeing 787 flight to Japan

American Airlines recently announced the launch of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight to Japan. The airline started operating its daily flights to Tokyo Narita from Chicago O’Hare. The flights on the Tokyo-Chicago O’Hare route were previously operated five times per week.

Before launching its Boeing 787 Dreamliner service on international routes, American Airlines first started operating it domestic routes, including Chicago O’Hare.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft is known for being fuel-efficient and economical and appropriate for being flown on long-haul international routes. The composite-structure aircrafts help the airlines to gain profits and serve new city pairs with a smaller aircraft instead of a jumbo jet.

By including Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts in its long-haul fleet, American Airlines is considering it a significant step ahead. However, United Airlines is already flying the Dreamliner since 2012. Though, United has so far refrained from using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on a regular Chicago O’Hare route, which some international carriers are already doing.

American Airlines is presently using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts to serves Dallas-Buenos Aires, Dallas-Shanghai and Dallas-Beijing routes. Before deploying the Dreamliner on Tokyo-Chicago O’Hare route, it was serving the two destinations with the help of a Boeing 777 aircraft. 

A spokesperson of American Airlines said that the airline is expecting to take the delivery of 13 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts in 2015. The airline had earlier placed orders for 42 Dreamliner aircrafts, with the right to acquire 58 more. The airline had so far received eight Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts.
