American Airlines launching Edinburgh- JFK service from May 7

American Airlines recently announced it will be launching new flights from Edinburgh to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The flights to be operated daily will start from the 2015 summer season.

The new direct flights will start operating from May 7 and will continue through September. The flights will depart from Edinburgh at 9.15 am and reach New York JFK at 11.45 am local time. This will be the airline’s first foray into the Scottish market.

Other North American carriers such as United Airlines and Air Canada Rogue will also be resuming seasonal service to the Scottish capital during the 2015 summer season following a successful season this year. The flights will provide connectivity to Chicago and Toronto from Edinburgh.

The flights to be operated by American Airlines will be complementing United Airlines’ current twice-daily flights services to Newark.

Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, Gordon Dewar, said that NYC is a famous city in the world and continues to be one of the highly popular international destinations. He said that the new service between the two cities is expected to gain popularity amongst the Scottish travelers visiting the Big Apple and to onward journeys within the United States.

Keith Brown, Scottish Transport Minister, also welcomed the launch of the new direct route and said that it will be greatly favored by the business travelers and tourists alike. He said that the U.S. and Scotland share a close historic and cultural bonding and the service is going to be advantageous for Scottish companies by providing competitive cheap airfares and a direct link to the wonderful city like New York.
