American Airlines new business class on A321Transcontinental

The fleet renewal effort of American Airlines is currently in its last stages. The airline recently showcased its new business class cabins on its first Airbus A321 Transcontinental aircraft before mediapersons at New York. The airline said that it will be using its new A321 Transcontinental on the profitable cross-country route. American Airlines has now become the first domestic carrier to introduce the newly acquired aircraft featuring three classes – First Class, Business Class and Main Cabin. The airline wants to compete with its rivals Delta Air Lines and United Airlines on the transcontinental route.

The competition on the transcontinental is fast heating. The three carriers – American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines – are not the only ones to engage in stiff competition, but another U.S. carrier JetBlue Airways has also revamped its fleet and stepped up the fight for passenger traffic on the transcontinental route. JetBlue Airways’ new “Mint” cabin now features sleeper seats that would be offered to its customers on the New York-California flights.

According to American Airlines, the business class flights will be featuring lie-flat bed seats. The seat pitch will be of 58 inch and the seat width will be 18.5 to 19.5 inch depending on where the passengers are seated, window or in the aisle. Among other features in the business class include a personal 15.5 inch touchscreen with a wide selection of music, videos and games for in-flight entertainment. Jim Carter, American Airlines’ Vice President – Eastern Sales Division, said that the new aircraft demonstrates that the interest of the customers is top priority for the airline and opens a new chapter in the modernization of the airline.
