American Airlines planning codeshare pact with China Southern

American Airlines is planning to enter into codeshare agreement with China’s largest carrier China Southern Airlines. The new pact is likely to become effective later this year. Media reports said that American Airlines will benefit with this codeshare pact by gaining access to above 40 destinations in China when connecting in Beijing Capital International Airport, and 30 cities in the country from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

American Airlines is presently operating daily flights services from several U.S. gateways, including Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The destinations being served in China include Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The airline is utilizing a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft to operate all flights to Shanghai and Beijing, while flights to Hong Kong are being conducted with the help of a Boeing 777-300 aircraft.

China Southern Airlines also stand to greatly benefit with the new codeshare agreement with American Airlines. According to the reports, China Southern Airlines will be provided access to nearly 80 destinations in North America and South America from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, San Francisco International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. The customers when traveling on either airline on codeshare routes would get opportunity to redeem and earn miles, in addition to easy baggage transportation to their final destination. China Southern Airlines operates most of its transpacific flights out of its primary hub in Guangzhou.

Robert Isom, President of American Airlines, while expressing his happiness on the new codeshare agreement, said, “American Airlines and China Southern Airlines are presently among the world’s biggest carriers. The extensive flight network offered by both the airlines is unparalleled and highly complementary. The leisure and business travelers will benefit hugely in the two critical markets that United States and China are presently. Both the airlines will continue to build on their relationships and serve the customers committedly offering top notch amenities day after day.”
