American Airlines to continue serving complimentary alcohol in premium economy

American Airlines recently announced that it will continue serving complimentary wine, liquor and beer in its premium economy cabins.

The airline has also decided to scrap its $7 charge for wine and $6 charge for beer on board flights from US to Asia, Europe and some Latin American destinations effective from February 1, 2012.

Earlier, American Airlines used to serve complimentary drinks, meals and snacks in economy class. However, over the years the airline had stopped this practice.

According to a recent decision of the airline, the free bar on board select international flights in economy class is being brought back from February this year.

However, the airline stated that economy class passengers on flights to Hawaii and Canada will be required to pay for their alcoholic drinks.

American Airlines had filed for bankruptcy protection in November last year. The move of the airline is being seen as a desperate attempt to retain customer loyalty even as it restructures to cut costs.
