Now American Airlines’ customers booking flights to Barbados from Miami would enjoy their travel in a modern aircraft. The airline has decided to replace the Boeing 757 aircraft being operated on the route currently with new state-of-the-art Airbus A321S aircraft, which includes 16 first class seats, 165 main cabin seats and luxurious business class cabin. The flights on Miami-Barbados are being operated twice daily.
American Airlines is set to celebrate 42 years of flights services to Barbados in September 2017. To mark the occasion, the airline will be undertaking a huge fleet renewal program and spend $4.1 billion on purchase of new aircrafts this year.
Alvin Jemmott, Chairman of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), said, “The new aircraft to Barbados is a welcome change and shows American Airlines commitment to the island for past several years. The partnership between Barbados and American Airlines has been quite important one. It is a matter of great happiness that the airline had been transporting in excess of 100,000 passengers to Barbados annually, which is nearly 60 percent of passengers out of the U.S. market.”
American Airlines first started its flights to Barbados from New York in 1975. Later, the airline also launched its flights to Miami in 1997, and is now offering twice daily flights between Miami and Barbados. Media reports said that the introduction of new A321S aircraft on the route is being seen as a milestone, and shows the importance that the Caribbean Island nation Barbados holds for the airline.
It may be noted that Barbados market has seen tremendous growth over the years. The year 2014 saw about 118,000 passengers being transported to Barbados. The next year in 2015 the passenger number increased to 148,000. This has kept on growing, and the year 2016 saw a further increase to 168,000 passengers. Travel experts said that the growth in passengers traveling to Barbados is set to rise in 2017 as well. Moreover, the trend also shows that this is no small feat.
