American Airlines to embark on brand modernization

American Airlines flights will sport a new look in future. The airline has indicated that it wants to modernize its brand and is currently studying whether to adopt a new look for its jets.

The airline has the oldest livery among major U.S. carriers and using an iconic polished-aluminum finish since the 1930s, which it wants to change now.

Virasb Vahidi, Chief Commercial Officer of American Airlines, said that the airline has decided to embark on a modernization of its brand, which could culminate with a potentially new livery and logo.

American Airlines has been making the use of its livery ever since 1967, which has successively outlasted mergers, failures and shifting tastes across the aviation industry.

The airline in a statement said that it will begin receiving new aircrafts in 2013, offering it a chance to update its red, white and blue stripes on the hull and tail logo with red and blue A’s and a stylized eagle.

Apart from the livery redesign, the airline’s new exterior may also see dropping the signature bare-metal skin dating to the era of propeller-driven airliners.
