American, JetBlue announce the end of their interline agreement

American Airlines announced that it was ending it’s interline agreement with JetBlue Airways. This news will certainly disappoint travelers who have benefited from the airlines’ seamless connections to several destinations within the United States.

The Dallas/Fort Worth based American Airlines recently completed its merger with US Airways. Together these airlines will now offer airline tickets to travelers across 620 cities worldwide. Its decision to terminate the agreement with the New York based carrier will also affect their frequent flyer program accrual deal. The sectors that will be most affected include New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

Beginning April 1, 2014 travelers will cease to benefit from traveling on these airlines as interline partners. They will also not be entitled to any points or miles during travel on erstwhile partners. However, the travelers who have so far accrued either JetBlue TrueBlue points or American AAdvantage miles will have them credited to their accounts soon. Both these airlines are functioning unitedly to assure that their decision leaves little impact on their customers in the near future.

The Dallas/Fort Worth based airline commenced operations in the year 1934 and has since been flying to 273 cities worldwide. Some of the destinations served by this airline include Liberia, San Jose, Frankfurt, London, Beijing, and Hong Kong. On the other hand, the New York based airline was established in the year 1999 and operates out of its hub in John F. Kennedy International Airport. At present, it flies to about 84 overall destinations.
