An insight into British Airways business class-only Airbus A318

The bigger the aircraft the better it is thought for long-haul flying – whether you are flying in Airbus A380 or Boeing 747. Traveling in business class in these aircrafts is quite luxurious experience with private suites, on-board showers and a fully stocked bar. However, sometimes smaller aircrafts are considered to be much better or at par with bigger aircrafts.

British Airways is one such airline operating small Airbus A318 aircrafts between London City Airport and New York JFK. The Airbus A318 is business class-only configuration having 32 seats only. This is in stark contrast to a similar A318 flown by Air France, which offers a total of 131 seats, including business class. Here is an overview of what it is like flying in ultimate luxury in British Airways’ A318 aircraft.

The Airbus A318 is only 103 feet long with a wingspan of just under 112 feet. Flying in this aircraft is wonderful and a totally different experience. The aircraft makes a stopover in Shannon for fuel when flying between London and New York. However, the return flight is nonstop. Once you are on board the aircraft on flight to London from New York JFK, get ready to be served a very quick meal just in case you missed it or hadn’t any time to eat at New York JFK lounge.

After your meal, it’s time for some entertainment before you sleep. The customers are provided iPads for in-flight entertainment because the aircraft hasn’t been equipped with built-in in-flight entertainment system due to weight restrictions. There’s ample storage space for keeping your things. You needn’t worry about the space. You will even find a dedicated “spectacle” holder. The lie-flat seats are comfortable and you will be assured a good sleep during overnight flight.

Upon arrival at London City Airport the passengers are shuttled by the airline in a private car over to a five-star hotel. This is because the airport isn’t spacious enough to house an arrivals lounge. The passengers are put up in one of the hotel’s spa rooms for taking a shower. They are then treated to a breakfast buffet, and it’s finally time to go your own way for official and business chores.

The Airbus A318 being operated by British Airways is essentially meant for corporate travelers and super commuters. It’s indeed one of the best ways to reach New York from London in the lap of luxury.
