ANA to double frequencies on Tokyo-Honolulu route from July

Japan’s second largest carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA) has announced it is going to double its flight frequencies between Tokyo and Honolulu from July this year.

The airline is currently operating seven flights from Tokyo to Honolulu. The airline said that it is going to double the frequencies to 14 flights per week. A Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will be used to operate the flights between Honolulu International Airport and Tokyo’s Narita International Airport starting from July 17, 2015.

All Nippon Airways in a statement said that the airline’s expansion of its flights network from Narita International Airport is perfectly in line with the airline’s strategy to make the best use of the airport as a transfer hub for international customers traveling between North America and various other destinations in Asia. The airline said that Haneda Airport meanwhile will continue to be a major hub for both domestic and international transfers.

According to the Hawaii Tourism Authority, the launch of new flights is expected to generate big revenues with visitor spending reaching an estimated $50 million. David Uchiyama, Vice President of Brand Management at HTA, said, “The passenger demand for Hawaii travel continues to be strong as ever thus resulting in the doubling of flight frequencies.”
 
He said that Japan has been the largest international market for Hawaii and HTA will make extensive efforts in collaboration with its partners for making this route sustainable and increasingly profitable.

Honolulu-based Hawaiian Airlines has been trying to seek approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation for a slot at Haneda Airport so that it can launch more services to Japan from the Hawaiian city of Kona.
