Berlin-Abu Dhabi flights launched by airberlin

Germany’s leading carrier airberlin recently launched direct flights to Abu Dhabi from Berlin. The inaugural flight, operated by Europe’s sixth biggest carrier, touched down at Abu Dhabi International Airport on January 16, 2012, and was greeted by a traditional water canon salute.

A top airberlin official said in a statement that the new flights will be operated in association with UAE’s national carrier Etihad Airways. The airline will deploy an Airbus A330-200 aircraft on Berlin-Abu Dhabi route. The flights will be operated four-times every week between the two capital cities on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Earlier, in December 2011 there was an announcement saying that Etihad Airways would be airberlin’s largest single shareholder.

Hartmut Mehdorn, Chief Executive Officer of airberlin, said that the strategic partnership with Etihad Airways has opened up new opportunities for airberlin, and would provide greater accessibility to the passengers between Berlin and Abu Dhabi. Besides, the new route would prove to be beneficial for business as well as leisure travelers.
