British Airways and Iberia passenger traffic falls in August 2011

British Airways and Iberia, both part of International Airlines Group (IAG), announced their operational results for August 2011.

For both the airlines, August was not good as there had been a 3.6% drop in passenger traffic. The two airlines carried 4.8 million passengers in August 2011. Fall in passenger traffic has come despite the fact that both the airlines carried 3.4% more passengers or 34 million so far in 2011.

According to airlines operator IAG, flights between the UK and Spain reported a 22.5% drop in passenger traffic in August this year. The operator, however, said that passenger traffic to the Caribbean, Asia Pacific and North America had significantly improved 9.8%, 6.2% and 5.5% respectively.

According to the two airlines, flights to Middle East and Africa also reported a decline of 9.6% due to the ongoing unrest in the region.
