British Airways has recently launched its first ever direct flights between New Orleans and London. The inaugural flight took off for New Orleans on March 27, 2017. This will be the only direct service from Europe to a key city in Louisiana to be introduced by UK’s national carrier.
The airline had announced the new route earlier this year. Media reports said that the flights between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and London’s Heathrow Airport will be operated four times every week. The flight duration on the route will be nearly 10 hours.
The new London-New Orleans route will be served with the help of a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, configured in three classes. The flight operations would be done on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays per week. The outbound flight will depart from London Heathrow at 3:40 pm and arrives in New Orleans at 7:40 pm. The return flight will make its departure from New Orleans at 9:10 pm and reaches London Heathrow at 12:00 noon next day.
Sean Doyle, British Airways’ Director of Networks and Alliances, while expressing happiness over the launch of new service, said that it’s a matter of great delight and excitement that New Orleans has been added to British Airways’ extensive global network. In fact, New Orleans is renowned for its iconic arts and music scene, and also hosts more than 130 festivals annually. The most prominent and globally renowned festival being Mardi Gras.”
Doyle further said that British holidaymakers will absolutely love the launch of the new direct route to New Orleans. They can look forward to enjoy relaxing and surfing on the unspoilt gorgeous Orange Beaches and Gulf Shores, cruising down the Mississippi River, go sightseeing to the historic sugarcane plantations, and get thrilled with the jazz and blues music trails. The direct flights to New Orleans would undoubtedly offer great opportunity to holidaymakers to explore one of the most sought after destinations of the Deep South.
