British Airways recently announced it will be launching flights to Fort Lauderdale from London Gatwick next year. The flights between the two destinations would be operational from July 6, 2017. The airline will operate flights on London Gatwick-Fort Lauderdale route round the year. The two destinations will be served with four times per week flights during the peak summer season. However, the remaining part of the year would see the flights being conducted thrice weekly. The flight tickets for the new service are already on sale.
British Airways will be serving free snacks, beverages and meals to its customers traveling on the route. Moreover, the customers will also be able to make use of a full service bar on board their flights. Travel experts said that for some customers the London Gatwick-Fort Lauderdale route may appear to be awkward because the airline is already operating twice daily flights to Miami, which is too nearby at a distance of 30 miles to the south.
Colm Lacy, British Airways' Head of Commercial for Gatwick Airport, said, “Now four gateways in Florida will be served by British Airways. The customers will now be offered more seats for traveling to the Sunshine State from London than currently offered by any other airline.”
Apart from British Airways, leading Middle East carrier Emirates Airline has also revealed its plans that it will be launching flights between Dubai International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport starring from December 15, 2016. This will also be Fort Lauderdale airport’s first nonstop route to the Middle East.
The news of launching new service has come at a time when Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is currently witnessing a worldwide growth. Media reports have also recently indicated that Norwegian will also be launching new flights to Barcelona and Paris from Fort Lauderdale in August next year.
