British Airways replaces Boeing 747 with A380 on SFO-LHR route

British Airways is determined to gain a major marketshare on its lucrative San Francisco-London route and wants to leave its rivals way behind. UK’s national carrier is now holding the key that none of its competitors have in the tough competition currently underway. The airline has increased the capacity on the route and deployed the largest passenger aircraft in the world to offer its services.

Media reports said that British Airways recently launched its double-decker Airbus A380 aircraft to operate flights between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR). The reports said that the airline decided to utilize the larger aircraft on the route considering the growing travel demand to Great Britain from the booming technology sector in the Bay Area.

The airline was earlier operating a smaller Boeing 747 aircraft during its evening service to/from San Francisco. This has now been replaced with the larger Airbus A380 aircraft now. The airline will however continue to operate its afternoon service between San Francisco and London with the help of its Boeing 747 aircraft.
 
With the larger Airbus A380 aircraft now deployed on San Francisco-London route, the number of seats being earlier offered has also been significantly increased. The Airbus A380 aircraft will have a carrying capacity of a total of 469 passengers. This will be 124 seats more than those being provided on Boeing 747 aircraft. The airline also said that those booking business class flights to San Francisco from London will now be offered 97 flat bed seats in the Club World (Business Class) cabin instead of the earlier 52 seats.
