Want to upgrade to business class? Then, here’s great opportunity for all those booking Hawaiian Airlines flights for travel between North America and Hawaii. Media reports recently said that the customers can now bid for an upgrade to business class at a much lower price than the normal fares.
According to the reports, Hawaiian Airlines would be sending email invitations to all eligible travelers for submitting their bid nearly 10 days prior to their flights. This is being done on the similar lines of the Plusgrade system being currently adopted by Cathay Pacific airways, Virgin Australia, Qantas Airways and others.
The minimum and maximum bid to be entered would vary depending on various factors such as the fares already paid for current economy class ticket and the length of journey. The successful bids would be processed around 48 hours prior to scheduled departure of flights. Following upgrade, the customers would be able to enjoy most of the privileges and amenities usually accorded to full fare-paying business class passengers, which includes access to business class lounges, free two checked bags and priority check-in. The premium customers would be able to enjoy their travel in comfort with the new lie-flat beds being gradually rolled out on the airline's Airbus A330 fleet.
A spokesperson of Hawaiian Airline said the business class upgrade bidding would be initially available only on flights between the US mainland and Hawaii. The customers would therefore not be able to upgrade for travel to Auckland, Brisbane and Sydney from Honolulu.
According to the terms of bidding, the higher baggage allowance being received from a successful upgrade would be applicable only on the upgraded flight and not on the full journey, even though it’s a connecting flight. Also, if additional fee has already been paid for extra legroom or meals in economy class before upgrade, then the customer would not get any refund if the upgrade bid is finally accepted.
