Caribbean Airlines against hiking airline tickets prices

Caribbean Airlines passengers can now heave a sigh of relief and continue booking cheap flights as usual. The airline has indicated that it will not resort to increase the prices of its tickets even as it continues to struggle adjusting to operations without a multi-million dollar fuel subsidy from the government.

The Finance Minister of Trinidad and Tobago has announced that the government has removed the state carrier’s fuel subsidy on non-domestic flights in the country’s 2014 national budget.

Caribbean Airlines’ board of directors during its first workshop with the airline’s senior management in June this year had requested that henceforth all the operating financial operation and financial target should be calculated without the fuel subsidy.

The airline management had also accepted the challenge. It accordingly demonstrated that Caribbean Airlines succeeded in achieving a profit of $6.2 million for the month of July 2013 as against an original forecast of $0.64 million during the same period, and also as compared to July last year during which the airline suffered a loss of 3.7 million.
