Cathay Pacific introducing new business class seat in Feb 2016

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways has recently announced it will be introducing its new business class seat in February next year. The newly-designed seat will be launched on the airline’s flagship Airbus A350 fleet. The airline has also decided to revamp the current business class seats on its Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 fleet.

Zodiac Aerospace will be installing the newly-designed seat, which will be an enhanced version from the same Cirrus family of existing business class. The seat will be designed by Germany’s Porsche Design Group, which the airline hired considering their expertise in industrial design.
 
The airline further said that the Airbus A350 fleet will also be featuring an “improved and different” seat in the premium economy class, which can be compared to today’s first-gen seat. More details about the new business class seats are still awaited. Media reports however said that the newly-designed seat won’t be radically different to the current seat design.
 
A spokesperson of Cathay Pacific Airways said that the existing business class seats have been quite popular with the customers, and that there was no reason whatsoever to reinvent it. The seat will be rather an evolution of the existing seat.

The airline has provided an internal codename of ‘FB2+’to the new seats thus denoting them as an incremental step that goes beyond the airline’s existing second generation of flatbed business class.

Earlier, Cathay Pacific Airways launched the existing CX business class in 2011, and expects the mid-life revamp to be complete in 2017 or 2018.
