Cathay Pacific Airways recently reopened its newly refurbished business class lounge “The Pier” at its main hub at Hong Kong International Airport. The airline’s move is aimed at attracting premium customers in big numbers and giving tough competition to its rivals amid market slowdown.
The Pier is currently the largest lounge of the airline and is situated in the north-west part of Hong Kong International Airport. After upgrade, the new look business class lounge has become quite spacious now with its additional expansion by 1,000 square meters. The lounge has been designed to seat up to 550 passengers.
London-based Studioilse has designed the revamped Pier, which will be prominently featuring a tea house, workstations, showers, and, of course, Cathay Pacific Airways’ signature noodle bar. The lounge’s luxurious standard gives it a distinct Hong Kong identity and entices the visitors by replicating Hong Kong’s street life.
Apart from its hub Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific Airways has also in recent times refurbished its business class lounges at other international airports as well, including Vancouver, Tokyo Haneda, Manila and Bangkok. The airline is taking proactive measures to attract business class customers amid intense competition posed by Singapore Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Air China.
Cathay Pacific Airways is presently a member of oneworld alliance, and is serving international destinations such as Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Cairns, Brisbane and Adelaide. These cities are being served with the help of Airbus A330-300 aircrafts and Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts. The airline is also in the process of acquiring fuel efficient, new generation Airbus A350-900 aircrafts and has already placed orders for 22 such aircrafts. The aircrafts would be configured with business class, premium economy and economy class. The travel classes would be featuring new seats and would also offer on board Wi-Fi. The airline had earlier said it would be deploying Airbus A350-900 aircraft to operate flights to Dusseldorf and London Gatwick, but later on added Auckland as its third A350-900 destination as well.
