Cebu Pacific and All Nippon Airways seek fuel surcharge hike

Philippine air travelers taking flights out of Philippine might have to pay more for their airline tickets. Media reports recently said that Philippine’s leading budget carrier Cebu Pacific has applied to the Civil Aeronautics Board seeking approval to hike fuel surcharge on select domestic and international flights.

According to media reports, Cebu Pacific has submitted before the Civil Aeronautics Board seeking a $2 increase in fuel surcharge for its Cebu-Incheon and Manila-Incheon routes. Upon approval, the fuel surcharge will go up to $60 from existing $58. The airline has also sought a $7 upward adjustment for its Cebu-Busan and Manila-Busan routes. The fuel surcharge hike will go up to $65 from $58 when approved. Further, Cebu Pacific is also seeking a fuel surcharge increase for flights out of Cebu to various domestic routes including Dumaguete, Camiguin and Surigao.

Japan’s second largest carrier All Nippon Airways has also applied to Civil Aeronautics Board requesting a similar adjustment to $86 from $80 per passenger per one-way flight between Japan and Philippines. The Japanese carrier also wants to impose a $170 fuel surcharge on flights between the Philippines and the United States, Canada and Mexico via Japan. According to All Nippon Airways, the application is scheduled for hearing on December 19 this year.
