China Southern Airlines launching new flights to San Francisco

China Southern Airlines recently announced it will be launching new flights between Guangzhou City and San Francisco. The flights will be operational from December 16 this year.

Guangzhou City is the capital of Guangdong Province in South China, while San Francisco is a key city in the United States.

A spokesperson of the airline in a statement said that the flights between the two cities will operate thrice weekly via Wuhan City, which is a part of Hubei Province in central China. The airline will deploy a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft configured with a total of 228 seats.

The new flights will be departing from Guangzhou City’s Baiyun International Airport at 1130 hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays of every week. The return flight will depart from San Francisco International Airport on the same days at 1255 hours.

With the launch of new service, San Francisco will now become China Southern Airlines’ fourth gateway in North America. The three destinations being currently served include New York, Los Angeles and Vancouver. This will also be the airline’s first U.S. connection to Wuhan City.

The spokesperson further indicated that the airline is planning to introduce direct flights to San Francisco from Guangzhou to be operated four times per week. The airline will also be increasing the frequencies on Guangzhou-New York route from the existing four to seven flights every week. The new schedule is likely to become effective by the middle of 2015.

China Southern Airlines is presently the largest carrier in China in terms of its fleet size. The airline started operating flights to North America is 1997.
