Common lounge comes up for airlines at Mumbai airport

Privileged customers and those traveling on business class flights have always looked up to airport lounges as a source of comfort. Mumbai’s Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport is set to keep the premium and business travelers happy, albeit somewhat differently.

Currently, six lounges are being operated at Mumbai airport’s international terminal. Four of these lounges are being operated by airlines exclusively for their respective customers. However, all this has now changed. Prominent airlines such as Air India, Lufthansa, Emirates Airline and British Airways have now lost control of their exclusive lounges and are sharing a common lounge that recently opened at T2 in Mumbai in January 2014.

The common lounge would be for both first class and business class travelers. All the four airlines which had been operating their exclusive lounges have expressed their displeasure over shifting their operations to the swanky T2 as they pumped in huge investments for their dedicated lounges for privileged customers in the existing terminal. By maintaining their own lounges the airlines had so far been able to strongly focus on premium traffic and offered exclusivity to their premium customers.
 
The new common lounge is the biggest of them all, as compared to the four lounges combined. The new T2 lounge is equipped with modern amenities that were not available in the existing lounges. The passengers would be offered free Wi-Fi access. The passengers would get ample opportunity to shop in the expansive 21,000 square meter area. The Mumbai airport also has many restaurants including Pizza Hut, Mad Over Donuts, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Baskin & Robbins, KFC, and Domino’s Pizza.
