Delta Air Lines hikes fares on many U.S. flights by up to $10 per round-trip

Leading U.S. carrier Delta Air Lines recently announced it has increased airfares on many U.S. flights. Passengers buying air tickets will now have to spend more and pay up to $10 more per round-trip.

The airfare hike by Delta Air Lines has become a cause of worry for other airlines prompting them to match the increase in near future.

Delta Air Lines in a statement said that the airline has increased ticket prices by $2 to $5 each way depending on the distance. Following suit, United Airlines revealed that it has also matched the recent increase.

Media reports said that so far JetBlue Airways and American Airlines have refrained from announcing airfares hike on similar line of Delta Air Lines. The reports also said that Southwest Airlines is keeping a watch on the situation and constantly monitoring it.

The increases on high fuel prices are being attributed as the main cause for airfares hike. The airlines say that fewer numbers of seats and flights always prompt them to raise fares occasionally.
