Delta Air Lines mileage requirement for round-trip award flights increased

Frequent fliers booking air tickets on Delta Air Lines will now be required to pay extra miles for round-trip flights to various key destinations on the flight network as the airline recently increased its mileage requirements.

The airline in a statement said that frequent fliers would now have to pay an extra 5,000 miles for round-trip award flights to multiple destinations on the network of the airline.

The increase in mileage requirements for certain award flights booked by frequent fliers to the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico and parts of South America became effective from September 1, 2012.

The Economy Class seats in the medium and high redemption tiers stand affected because of the increase in mileage rates.
 
There are more choices available for Economy Class seats in the medium and high redemption tiers for award bookings than those in the low tier.
 
The number of miles required for Mexico and the Caribbean in the medium tier has now been increased to 55,000 miles, while in the high tier the airline has the number of miles to 75,000.
 
The airline has increased the rate for Europe, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Brazil and Argentina in the medium tier to 95,000, while in the high tier this has been increased to 130,000 miles.

Delta Air Lines also disclosed that the mileage rate for Business Class and First Class seats in the high tier to Southeast Asia has been decreased.
