Delta Air Lines plans to hike fuel surcharge to Americas, Japan

The prices of airline tickets to the Americas and Japan may increase in future if Delta Air Lines finally succeeds in its plans. Media reports have recently said that Delta Air Lines is planning to hike fuel surcharge on tickets to Japan and the Americas from the Philippines and has applied for regulatory approval.

Media reports citing a statement issued recently by the Board of Airline Representatives said that Delta Air Lines has submitted an application before the Civil Aeronautics Board seeking approval to increase fuel surcharge on its tickets by $45. The reports said that if this is approved the ticket prices on routes to Japan and the Americas will significantly increase.

According to media reports, Delta Air Lines will upon approval increase fuel surcharge on tickets to Japan to $135 from the existing $90. Similarly, the fuel surcharge on tickets to the Americas will be increased to $215 from the present $170.

The Board of Airline Representatives said that Manila has now become Asia’s most expensive city to fuel an aircraft. In the given circumstances it is therefore quite necessary that the additional $45 should be levied as fuel surcharge to cope up with the increasing cost of the taxes.
