Delta Air Lines threatens to stop flights services to Columbia Regional Airport

Delta Air Lines has expressed resentment and is threatening to stop flights services to Columbia Regional Airport if the city authorities do not match the tax incentive which is a part of the potential American Airlines deal.

Media reports said that the airline recently wrote a letter to Columbia Mayor Bob McDavid cautioning that it will be forced to stop its flights services to Columbia Regional Airport if the tax incentive is not matched by the city officials on similar lines of the potential American Airlines deal. 

Robert J. Cortelyou, Delta Air Lines’ Senior Vice President of Network Planning, in his letter argued that the investment made by the airline so far in the Columbia community must be acknowledged and that a similar package of incentives and compensation be also given to Delta Air Lines akin to that being provided to American Airlines. He said in his letter that if this is not provided to the airline then the airline will be forced to abandon the Columbia market.
