Delta Air Lines to continue serving at Range Regional

Delta Air Lines has indicated that airline tickets from Range Regional Airport will continue to be sold as usual as the airline doesn’t plan to exit the airport so soon. The airline said that the passengers can look forward to continue flying out of the airport in June this year as well.
The airline however disclosed that the name of the carrier will be changed on the contract even though as the flights services continue.
 
According to Delta Air Lines, the details of Range Regional Airport’s Essential Air Service (EAS) contract have been announced by the U.S. Department of Transportation earlier in March this year. Under the EAS program, a minimum level of scheduled air service is guaranteed by certified air carriers to small communities before deregulation. The present EAS contract expires on May 31.

Delta Air Lines said that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the single bid placed by SkyWest Airlines to serve the Range Regional Airport it has been continuously doing for the past two years. SkyWest Airlines currently operates a Delta Connection flight to the airport.
SkyWest Airlines will be operating at the airport starting from June 1 under the new ESA contract. The contract will be effective until May 31, 2016, and the airline will be provided an annual subsidy of nearly $2.5 million.

The flight schedule will continue to be the same, and SkyWest Airlines will continue operating a 50-seater aircraft. According to the airline, 12 nonstop roundtrip flights would be operated between Hibbing and Minneapolis every week, or two daily flights, except on Tuesdays and Saturdays, when only one flight would be offered.
