Delta Air Lines to provide Wi-Fi access on its Boeing 747-400s

Delta Air Lines has announced it will be launching Wi-Fi service on its international flights 283 and 295 departing to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.

Delta Air Lines has already equipped Ku-band satellite Wi-Fi service on 3 of its 16 Boeing 747-400 aircrafts. These aircrafts are currently operating on various international routes including Nagoya-Manila, Tokyo-Bangkok, Tokyo-Taipei, Tokyo-Manila, New York-Tokyo, New York-Tel Aviv, Detroit-Tokyo, Detroit-Nagoya, and Detroit-Seoul.

All the Boeing 747-400 aircrafts on Delta Air Lines’ fleet will be equipped with Wi-Fi service by mid-2014. The airline also indicated that it will provide Wi-Fi service to its customers across its international fleet by the end of next year. This includes Airbus A330, Boeing 747, Boeing 757, Boeing 767 and Boeing 777 aircrafts. The airline said that final tests are underway on its Airbus A330 fleet.
 
The airlines said that its customers can make use of introductory pricing options to access Wi-Fi service. The laptop and mobile users will be provided one hour passes. The prices start at $14.95 for mobile users, while for laptop users it starts at $24.95.

Tim Mapes, Senior Vice President – Marketing of Delta Air Lines, said that the customers want to keep themselves engaged and productive on board their flights. He said that the airline wants to provide best services to the customers and has made huge investments to overhaul its fleet and significantly improve their travel experience.

Delta Air Lines presently owns the largest Wi-Fi equipped aircraft fleet in the world. This includes its fleet of 570 aircrafts operating on domestic routes. The airline is currently offering above 3,400 flights per day. According to Delta Air Lines, more than 870 aircrafts, including all the two-class regional jets being operated by Delta Connection, have in-flight Wi-Fi service installed on them and caters to above 400,000 customers on a daily basis.
