Delta to Refund taxes

After the suspension of non essential services of the Federal Aviation Administration, Delta airlines have announced that it would be refunding the taxes back to customers who booked flight tickets. FAA funding expired on July 23.

Once the funding expired, Delta had stopped collecting taxes on flight tickets that included a 7.5 percent tax on base ticket price, a $3.70 segment tax and other facilities taxes for international and domestic flights from and to Hawaii and Alaska.

As per the instructions issues by Internal Revenue Service (IRS), customers who paid the taxes on or before July 22nd for flights departing on July 23rd or after and before the reinstatement of FAA funding would be entitled for a refund of these taxes.

To keep the process streamlined, Delta airlines would transfer the funds directly to the customers, though it is still waiting to hear about it from IRS.
