Direct nonstop flights between Cape Town and Miami mooted

Direct nonstop flights between Miami and Cape Town are being actively considered presently. Business leaders in the two cities are making a determined push for the start of the services. The two cities are being viewed as gateways to emerging markets. Flights from Miami to Cape Town will help the travelers to conveniently connect to the rest of Africa. Similarly, those traveling from Cape Town would be able to connect to cities in Florida as well as Latin America.

Media reports said that the United States is currently top foreign direct investor in South Africa’s Western Cape province. Moreover, the U.S. is also the fifth largest buyer of products from Western Cape. On the other hand, Miami being the fourth largest economy in the United States is going to benefit in a big way by opening up to the businesses in Western Cape. The reports said that nonstop flights between Cape Town and Miami are the only answer to benefit businesses in either city.

According to the reports, aviation officials in South Africa have already planned to hold negotiations with some leading U.S. carriers such as American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines for launching the new flights between the two cities. It however remains to be seen after all which airline will be better prepared to launch its services.

Currently, Delta Air Lines and South African Airways are the only carriers offering nonstop direct flights services to destinations in South Africa. Delta Air Lines is operating nonstop flights to Johannesburg from Atlanta, while South African Airways is serving New York from Johannesburg. Among other international airlines serving or planning to serve Cape Town includes Air France KLM, Kenyan Airways and British Airways.

Media reports said that Air France KLM launched its daily flights services between Cape Town and Amsterdam in May 2016. Kenyan Airways in now all set to launch its thrice weekly flights to Nairobi from Cape Town starting from July 2016. British Airways has also indicated it will be launching three direct flights services to Cape Town from London Gatwick starting from November 24, 2016.
