Emirates to launch A380 on Barcelona route beginning Feb 1, 2014

Emirate, the major gulf airline has announced that it will operate Airbus A380 to Barcelona. The airline launched service to the Spanish city in 2012. It will upgrade service on its Dubai-Barcelona route beginning February 1, 2014.

At present, the airline operates Boeing 777-300ER between these two cities. The new Airbus A380 will replace the Boeing and take over service between the two cities permanently. The upgrade to the superjumbo jet will boost the carrier’s overall capacity approximately by 44 percent. This double-decker aircraft can accommodate 517 passengers.

This new aircraft comprises 14 private first class suites, 76 lie-flat bed seats in business class and 427 seats in the economy class. It also includes a lounge, Wi-Fi connectivity, ice, and a modern in-flight entertainment system for the passengers to enjoy their journey. Hubert Frach, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Commercial Operations, West said that Barcelona has turned out to be one of the most successful new destinations for the airline ever since its launch in 2012.
