Etihad Airways to launch flights to Seychelles in November

UAE’s flag carrier

recently announced that it will start flight services to Mahé, the capital of the Republic of Seychelles, from November 1. This is, however, subject to government approval.

According to the plans, the airline will operate four return services per week from Abu Dhabi to Seychelles International Airport in Mahé.

Etihad Airways’ CEO James Hogan said, “The Seychelles has strong and growing appeal as a premium leisure destination, with increasing numbers of UAE residents and European travelers holidaying there. Our increased frequencies from mid-2011 on some of our primary routes from Europe make the approaching Northern Winter period an ideal time to launch these new services. We expect this will be a hugely popular destination, in particular for holidaymakers from the GCC and European markets, due to the ease of connecting services through Abu Dhabi and convenient scheduling.”

Alain St.Ange, the CEO of Seychelles Tourism Board, expressed his happiness over the decision of Etihad Airways saying that this is good news for the Seychelles.

He said, “Abu Dhabi is an important hub in its own right and the UAE is a potential market for the Seychelles. This direct air link will only help to consolidate the position of the Seychelles as an accessible tourism destination.”

The Seychelles is an amazing travel destination comprising 115 islands in the western Indian Ocean, located off the east coast of Africa.
