Etihad Airways to stop free chauffeur service now

UAE’s national carrier Etihad Airways has recently announced a series of changes to be implemented both on the ground as well as in the air. The airline has taken into consideration customers’ feedback before announcing the new changes. The airline has at the same time said that it wants to offer flexibility and enhanced value to its customers.

One of the important changes that Etihad Airways is going to implement is expected to impact first class and business class customers. The airline said that it will stop its free chauffeur drive service being currently offered at all international destinations on its network. However, this complimentary service will continue to be provided at the airline’s primary hub Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Media reports said that the new changes will become effective from July 3, 2017 onwards. According to the new policy, the airline has decided to introduce a paid-for chauffeur service irrespective of travel classes. This will be though available at specially negotiated rates. The new service can also be eligible for the customers accruing Etihad Guest mile on ticket bookings.

Etihad Airways has however decided to continue offering its free chauffeur service to customers traveling in premium The Residence cabins at all international destinations. The airline is currently offering The Residence cabins on Airbus A380 aircrafts deployed on New York, Paris and London routes. The new policy will not impact those customers who have already purchased their first class and business class tickets before July 3.

Apart from the changes to free chauffeur service policy, Etihad Airways has also announced several other changes as well. The economy class customers will now be allowed access to Etihad lounges worldwide after paying entry fee. Emirates Airline had earlier this year introduced a similar lounge access fee to its economy class customers. The facility to upgrade to first class lounge and spa will be provided to business class customers after paying a fee when traveling to/from Abu Dhabi International Airport.
