Etihad makes bagging cheap flights easier, announces a new reward system

Etihad Airways has announced a new loyalty scheme under which redemptions of mile would get even more attractive. Major components of this new scheme would be in force from October 9th, 2011 and let loyal Etihad flyers redeem less reward points for cheap flight upgrades (few exceptions). The announcement has been made through email from the VP, Customer Relationship Management-Dr Barry Green. The new scheme would be applicable on select routes.

One of them would be London outbound to Abu Dhabi where travelers would need only 110,452 miles instead of earlier 120,000 to upgrade to First class tickets.

On the other hand, Coral Economy Class on Abu Dhabi and Johannesburg route would need 71,144 miles in place of 45,000 miles. Diamond First Class on Sydney route would also increase to 242,741 from 195,000 miles.

So if you have miles lying idle in your account, it’s time to get value out of them. Book cheap tickets now and upgrade to business or first class for lesser miles.
