Leading Taiwanese carrier EVA Air is gradually moving towards realizing its dream of operating 100 flights services per week to North America by 2018. The airline recently launched its new direct flights to Chicago from Taipei starting November 2, 2016.
With the launch of new flights to Chicago, EVA Air is now operating a total of 77 flights services per week to various North American destinations from Taiwan’s capital city Taipei. These destinations among others include Vancouver, Houston, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Los Angeles and New York.
The airline will also be expanding its weekly flights to Seattle from Taipei, from the existing 7 to 10 effective from December 8 this year. This will thus bring the total number of flights being operated now between Taiwan and North America to 80.
Media reports said that EVA Air is planning to launch 12 additional weekly flights services to North American destinations in 2017. The number of flights per week on the newly launched Taipei-Chicago route will be increasing to 7 from the existing four times per week services in May next year. The airline has also announced that its flights between San Francisco and Taipei are also set to increase to 17 from 14 per week starting from August. Moreover, the flights on Taipei-San Francisco route will further increase to 21 per week by the end of next year.
Derek Chen, President of EVA Air, said, “The company is purchasing new Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 aircrafts, and looking forward to their delivery during the next few years. With the acquisition of the new aircrafts, the airline will be adding new routes and aims to operate more than 100 flights per week in the North American market by the year 2018.”
Meanwhile, a study by Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration recently said that the market performance of EVA Air in North America has been quite good. The passenger load factor in September this year was more than 80 percent for flights to Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco and Seattle, whereas for Los Angeles and New York it was close to 80 percent.
