Finnair has announced its partnership with Airportr on trial basis. This will facilitate the customers to check in their baggage from Heathrow at any part of Central London, prior of departure. The service comes with a price. For collection and check-in of one piece of luggage, it costs around 30 pounds and it is available for one-hour slot. For four pieces of baggage, it is 40 pounds with three-hour slot.
In 2016, Airportr got introduced with British Airways and passengers flying from Gatwick and Heathrow use this service. American Airlines opted the service for flights flying from Heathrow to the US last year.
In the process, your luggage is collected and weighed by a driver. He scans passenger’s boarding passes and passports, baggage gets sealed in tamper-proof, coded cases. After airport screening, IATA bag receipts are sent to the customers which take around 90 minutes prior take-off.
For passengers arriving Heathrow from Helsinki, there’s a facility to get their baggage picked up directly from the airport and later gets departed to their hotel or residence in London.
Sari Nevanlinna, the airline’s Head of Ancillary Business stated, ‘We are a carrier which is deliberately devoted to innovation and we believe that this trial partnership with AirPortr will enable the passengers to enjoy a hassle-free and smoother journey. They don’t have to spend time standing in the queue at the time of check-in and security and take their luggage personally to the airport. This way the customers can save an ample amount of time.’
