Frontier Airlines ends Santa Barbara-Denver flights

People flying out of Santa Barbara will now be a worried lot as Frontier Airlines has finally ended its flights to Denver. The leading low-cost carrier has stopped operating its Central Coast service effective from January 6, 2015.

The airline’s decision to discontinue flights to Santa Barbara from Denver has come at a time when the officials at Santa Barbara Airport are struggling to add more flights from here.

Chris Hastert, Administrator of Santa Maria Airport said that the prime focus will be on main hub airports from Santa Maria. The airport will also at the same time try to ensure that there are enough customers for connecting through to other destinations and cities that the airlines are flying to.

Hastert said that the airport is currently working with many airlines as well as big cities to begin services out of here. However, it only depends on the airlines to decide whether to begin new services out of this area.

He also said that flights to Sacramento had been considered in the past. At one point it seemed that Sacramento service was feasible, however there aren’t enough customers who can fly to this city on a daily basis. There is still need to add flights to the city, but this solely depends on the particular airline whether to fly or not.

Meanwhile, United Airlines has declared that it will still continue to operate daily flights to Santa Barbara from Denver as usual.
