Frontier Airlines to suspend thrice-weekly Sioux City flights

Leading low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines has a surprise in store for travelers flying to/from Sioux City. The airline in a statement recently said that it considers Sioux City to be a seasonal route instead of year-round. The airline’s stand has rather taken Sioux City airport officials by surprise because they considered the service from Denver to be year-round.

Frontier Airlines has announced that it will be suspending its thrice-weekly flights between Sioux City and Denver from October 24, 2014. Media reports said that the airline seems to have forgotten to intimate the Sioux Gateway Airport officials about its decision, which has also left the customers booking flights after October 24 completely puzzled.

The flights services between Sioux City and Denver were launched by Frontier Airlines on June 12, 2014 with great fanfare. The airline however said that it will consider resuming the service after January 1, 2015.

The airline is presently operating flights on Sioux City-Denver route with the help of a 138-seat Airbus A319 aircraft. The two destinations are being served with thrice weekly flights.

Josh Flyr, Frontier Airlines’ Executive, had earlier written an email to Sioux Gateway Airport Director Curt Miller in August this year saying that the airline had always wanted to operate the route seasonally.

The Sioux Gateway Airport officials however stressed that Frontier Airlines had at no time during the course of their discussions had said about the route being seasonal. They said that the airline is trying to reallocate its aircrafts operating on the Sioux City-Denver route to other markets. Though the airline management has taken the decision, but the airport officials had always wanted the route to be a full-year service.
