Frontier introduces 14 new routes from Dulles Airport

Frontier Airlines, an ultra-low cost carrier based at Denver announced the launch of its service to Dulles International Airport. It will offer non-stop service from Virginia Airport to 14 cities. This introduction will act as a boost to Dulles as it has been witnessing drastic fall of domestic flights in the past few years.

Such a massive expansion will make Dulles Frontier’s third-busiest terminus within a month of commencing operations there. 14 direct flights from Dulles have been schedules for launch between the mid of August and mid of September. Once commencement of service is completed, only Denver and Trenton airports will offer flights to more destinations.

Kate O'Malley, spokeswoman Frontier said Dulles will not be like Denver, i.e. just a connecting hub. We are developing Dulles as a focus city for us. We have not brought new aircrafts or cancelled services on our existing routes in order to kick start our operations from Washington Dulles International Airport. Instead we have enhanced the usage of our existent fleet. She further said Frontier will offer daily flights to only Orlando. On rest of routes, Frontier will operate anything from three to six flights every week.

Direct service to Charlotte, Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Orlando, Tampa and Chicago will commence from August 19. And service to Detroit, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Memphis, St. Augustine/Jacksonville and St. Louis will commence from September 8.

Daniel Shurz, Senior VP, Frontier Airlines said we are aware of the high fares Dulles right now has. The market has immense potential but due to high fares not many can afford air travel. We are known as an ULCC. By introducing our services we will not just make the market more competitive but will also offer jaw dropping airfares, giving travelers an opportunity to fly for less.

Jack Potter, President and CEO, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said the introduction of 14 new routes perfectly coincide with the other incredible alterations happening at Dulles like improved parking choices, roomy concourse reworks, a complete new selection of food and beverages and never experienced before retail options. With all this and more we are happy to welcome Frontier aboard.

Frontier is not the only airline planning to start operations from Washington Dulles. United Airlines will offer daily flights to Madrid from June 10 and Air China will soon connect to the city of Beijing with a non-stop service.
