Garuda Indonesia to reduce Amsterdam flights

Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has announced that it will curtail its daily flights from Jakarta to Amsterdam in an attempt to offset losses it had to face due to the European economic downturn.

Garuda Indonesia in a statement said that it had become difficult for it to provide air tickets at low fares to the passengers because of the bad financial situation for some time. The airline disclosed that it will reduce daily flights from Jakarta to Amsterdam via Dubai, from the existing seven to four times a week, effective March 1, 2012.

According to the revised schedule, the flights would now depart from Jakarta every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. From Amsterdam, the flight will depart every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The airline has indicated that it will continue to operate its Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the Jakarta-Amsterdam route.

However, Garuda Indonesia has said that it will make efforts to expand its network, particularly in Asia. The airline has said that it will soon introduce new routes, including from Denpasar to Tokyo from April 27, and from Jakarta to Taipei, from May 19.
