Hainan Airlines launches nonstop Chengdu-Los Angeles flights

Hainan Airlines continues to expand in the United States. The airline launched its nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Chengdu effective from March 15, 2017. This will be the airline’s ninth nonstop route to the U.S. The twice-weekly flights will be operated with the help of Boeing 787-9 aircrafts.

According to the airline, the Californian metropolis of Los Angeles is already being served from the Chinese city Changsha. Moving ahead on its expansion plans, Hainan Airlines also launched flights between Chongqing and Los Angeles as well starting from March 21 this year.

A spokesperson of Hainan Airlines said, “There will be presently no competition whatsoever on the new 11,573-km-long Chengdu-Los Angeles route, which is being now served with Kung Fu Panda-themed Boeing 787-9 aircraft. It may be known that China and the United States are the two biggest aviation markets in the world. Hainan Airlines has a share of 11 percent seat capacity in these two markets.”

Earlier, Hainan Airlines became the first Chinese carrier to launch direct flights between Beijing and Las Vegas starting December 2, 2016. The thrice weekly service on the route is being operated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with the help of a 213-seat Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

Apart from Hainan Airlines, there are other international airlines as well which are having a strong presence and efficiently serving both the United States and China. Some of these important carriers include United Airlines, Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines. The dominant carrier being United Airlines with 22 percent market share, and followed by Air China with 18 percent, China Eastern Airlines coming third with 16 percent, both China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines each accounting for a market share of 11 percent respectively. In fact, Chinese carriers such as Air China, Hainan Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines together have a combined market share of 59 percent, while U.S. carriers have 41 percent market share in Chinese and American aviation markets.
