Horizon Air buying Q400 aircrafts for Alaska expansion

Low-cost carrier Horizon Air plans to increase its services to Alaska next year. Horizon Air, a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines, said that it will be expanding to serve Alaska better by offering more cheap flights options to its customers. The airline is purchasing Bombardier Q400 aircrafts for offering flight services starting early March 2014.

A newly-acquired Bombardier Q400 aircraft recently stopped by Juneau for less than 24 hours on its way to Fairbanks from Portland. This is one of the three Q400 aircrafts to be pressed into service.

Glenn Johnson, President of Horizon Air, said that after being finally deployed for operations the aircrafts would be offering services between Anchorage and Kodiak as well as Anchorage and Fairbanks. He said that the flights being operated in and out of Juneau will however note be affected with the new Bombardier Q400 aircrafts into operations.

Johnson said that the new flights services would be more frequent and customers would be offered cheap airfares. The new 76-seat Bombardier Q400 aircrafts are part of Horizon Air’s 51-plane fleet, thus making it the largest Q400 operator in the world.
