Hyatt plans 800-room convention center hotel in Kansas City

Leading global hotel chain Hyatt is planning an 800-room downtown convention center hotel in Kansas City. The cost of the hotel project is estimated to be around $300 million. This ambitious project has long been discussed since the 1990s and an announcement in this regard will soon be made by Kansas City leaders and development officials.

Media reports said that the proposed hotel tower and its parking garage would be occupying the block bordered by 16th Street, Baltimore Avenue, Wyandotte Street and Truman Road, just south of the downtown freeway loop.
Some of the important places such as the Kansas City Convention Center’s Grand Ballroom, Bartle Hall and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts are within the vicinity of the proposed hotel site.

According to the reports, the hotel tower is expected to be of 22 or 23 stories. Its main entrance will be on Baltimore Avenue. The space for banquet and meeting will be huge and is likely to be around 75,000 square feet area. The hotel will also have conference rooms and a large and a small ballroom as well. Among other facilities to be available here include a lounge, a bar, a restaurant, a recreational facility and retail spaces. The parking garage is expected to accommodate around 450 to 500 cars.
 
Kansas City will own three-fourths of the land for the site. Kansas City officials and the developers have indicated that the construction of the hotel tower is likely to begin in early 2016, while the hotel will be finally open for the visitors in 2018.
