Spain’s national carrier Iberia has decided to resume its flights services to Puerto Rico’s capital city San Juan starting from May 15, 2016. The airline will operate flights to San Juan thrice weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays.
With the launch of new service San Juan will become the 20th Latin American destination on Iberia’s network. Iberia, which is also Spain’s largest airline, had launched six new routes in Latin America in 2014. These destinations include Medellin, Cali, Havana, Montevideo and Santo Domingo. The airline is presently operating a total of 250 flights per week between Latin America and Europe.
A spokesperson of Iberia said that the airline will deploy its new Airbus A330-200 aircrafts for operating flights between Madrid and San Juan. The aircraft will be equipped with 19 newly-designed business class seats. The customers travelling in economy class cabin will be offered a total of 269 seats.
The customers booking business class tickets to Madrid from San Juan will be offered convertible 2-metre-long flat beds with direct aisle access. Among other facilities to be offered in business class cabin include power outlets and USB ports for electronic devices, touch-screen-based à la carte entertainment systems, and Wi-Fi access and GSM connectivity. The customers travelling in economy class cabin would be offered wider and ergonomic seats.
Alejandro García Padilla, Governor of Puerto Rico, said, “It is a matter of extreme delight that Iberia has decided to resume its services from May 15 in a big way. The door for Puerto Ricans and other passengers using San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport will be open for connections throughout Europe and also bring large number of travellers to Puerto Rico as well.”
