Icelandair new route schedule for 2012, expands operations

Icelandair recently announced a new route schedule for 2012 and disclosed that it will be expanding its operations.

The new route schedule is said to be the largest in Icelandair’s history and will be 13% more exhaustive than 2011 schedule. The airline indicated that Denver is being added as a new year-round destination. Besides, flight frequencies to various US and European cities will be increased too.

Besides 4 weekly flights to Denver, Icelandair has also hinted at increasing its number of flights to Washington DC and Seattle. It will also add more capacity from Manchester and Glasgow.  According to the airline, a total of 31 destinations will be covered next year.

The airline has forecast to carry 2 million passengers in 2012, when compared to estimated 1.8 million passengers this year. Icelandair in a statement said that it will be deploying 16 Boeing 757 aircraft to serve on its network next summer, which will be two more than in 2011.

There will be 400 flights every week during summer schedule, while the total number of passengers will be around 10,000 daily during peak periods.
