Icelandair relocating operations to London Heathrow Terminal 2

Icelandair recently announced the relocation of its flight operations to Terminal 2 at London Heathrow Airport. The airline will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of its flights services to the UK this year. To celebrate this joyous occasion the airline has unveiled its special ‘Hekla Aurora’ aircraft to carry its first passengers to Terminal 2. This special Boeing aircraft has been designed on Aurora Borealis theme.
 
The passengers transported to Terminal 2 were also regaled with live musical performance by Northern Lights Symphony Orchestra quartet in the T2 departure lounges.

Expressing delight at the relocation of operations to London Heathrow’s Terminal 2, Andrés Jónsson, General Manager of Icelandair in UK, said, “The airline is really elated that it has managed to increase transatlantic opportunities from the UK and offer the customers from the UK flexible and faster connections to several destinations on the flight network.”

Icelandair is currently offering twice daily services from Reykjavik International Airport to London Heathrow and then onwards to 14 destinations in United States and Canada. Iceland’s geographic position on its shortest flight path between North America and Europe enables the airline to offering many of its fastest transatlantic flights to North American gateways from the UK.
 
Media reports said that Icelandair is on an expansion drive and continue to do so in 2015 as well. The airline will be increasing its frequencies to many destinations worldwide including Washington D.C., New York and Vancouver. The airline will also be launching its new flights to Portland from Reykjavik in May this year. It may be noted that Icelandair is presently the only airline in the world to offer a stopover of up to 7 days to its customers in Iceland without additional airfares.
